Cool & Crazy - The M.O.M Trio: One of Jazz's Finest

The recent tour of the M.O.M. Trio, featuring Jowee Omicil alongside the Moutin brothers, Louis and François, was an unforgettable journey of spontaneity and deep musical connection. This collaboration, which began as a chance meeting during the filming of The Eddy on Netflix, blossomed in Paris, where the trio embraced an unstructured, improvisational approach to their music.

From Porgy & Bess in Vienna, to Unterfahrt in Munich, and Birdland in Neuburg, M.O.M. delivered performances that captivated audiences and critics alike. Neuburger Rundschau highlighted their energy, calling it “rare to see such joy on stage, combined with the effortless mastery of true professionals, intense and ceaselessly engaging.” Dr. Tobias Böcker described the trio as “cool, crazy, and incredibly vital,” and another review noted their sound as “a seamless blend of bebop to hip hop, calypso to free jazz.

Their performance navigated seamlessly between Coltrane and Fela Kuti, incorporating highlights from the repertoire of late Miles Davis, infused with the spirits of Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, and Eric Dolphy—a remarkable display of jazz history in just two and a half hours.” (Kultkomplott.de, Jörg Konrad)

Thanks to the amazing audiences everywhere and the promoters.

A raw jazz diamond whose musical stage presence fascinated. His playing was never self-serving. Is Omicil a hidden gem? This trio, in any case, was an example of the boundlessness of music in general – and jazz in particular.

"So wie das ganze Konzert Spaß macht, die ekstatischen Abschnitte ebenso wie die ruhigeren im zweiten Teil. „Does Humor Belong in Music?“ fragte Frank Zappa bereits 1986 und gab die Antwort gleich selber. Selbstverständlich! Damals und auch hier im Birdland, sobald er nur befreiende Wirkung hat."

"Cool, crazy, and incredibly vibrant. Rarely has there been so much fun on the Birdland stage, combined with the effortless mastery of true professionals, all while remaining intensely focused and ceaselessly engaged."
